Learn Your Risk

Nearly 100,000 adult Mainers have been diagnosed with prediabetes, which is when your blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes.

Anyone can develop prediabetes, and most people with prediabetes are unaware that they have it. Yet understanding prediabetes and your risk is such essential information to be armed with because – although it increases your risk for type 2 diabetes – with the right lifestyle changes, prediabetes is reversible.

Take the risk test and take charge of your health today. You can print your results to start the conversation with your healthcare provider.

Have you ever been told by a health professional that you have diabetes ?

If you currently have diabetes, then visit the diabetes page for more information

Are you currently pregnant?

If you are currently pregnant, we recommend waiting to take the risk test until after your 6 week postpartum visit. If you have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, ask your provider about your risk for diabetes. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)helps eligible women by providing education and healthy foods during and after pregnancy.

Thanks for answering the pretest questions. Now on to the test!

You’re one step further in reclaiming your health just by understanding your risk! No matter the results of your risk test, the best way to know if you have prediabetes is to talk to your doctor and get your blood sugar tested.
The prediabetes risk test is a screening tool developed by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and validated by the US CDC to help determine an individual's risk of developing prediabetes. You can learn more about the risk test here.

It is important to be regularly screened for prediabetes. The results of this risk test are not a diagnosis of prediabetes. Please share your results with your healthcare provider. Only a blood test can confirm a diagnosis.
